“Truth Between the Lies” by GEA

GEA — the Helsinki-based musician whose highly anticipated music video for the electro-pop track "Truth Between the Lies" was released on February 12th, 2021 — encourages people to be seekers of truth. Although the interpretation of those words is inherently highly subjective, the idea of objective truth is one that is both admirable and rather romantic.

“All the wisdom you need is inside of you. The snake is guarding this ancient and intuitive knowledge, and you just need to wake up your inner voice to access it,” explains GEA in the official press release. Simply put, she wrote the song “about the truth running eternally through our veins no matter how much we would benefit from the lie.”

Backed by Fragity Records, “Truth Between the Lies” was produced by both Grammy and Juno winner Chris Birkett, who is also responsible for recording all of the instruments featured on the track: electronic drums, synth bass, string bass, keyboards, electric guitars, and synth effects. GEA’s unusual vocals give potency to the philosophy of her lyrics, which are published below.

This work, I suppose, falls in the category that exists somewhere between art rock and art pop. The music video for the track was produced by BYNEW, while the video was animated by Raimi Nikkari. Both worked on its visual concept, which — if I had to sum it up — is based on the concept of a journey.

Watching the video, one may think of the expression: To walk a mile in someone else's shoes. It starts off with a person walking. Then, via clever animation, it begins to explore the notion of perception. Ultimately, viewers are introduced to a few different “paths” that are constantly changing and evolving, ultimately symbolizing a trajectory of someone’s life. Or, perhaps, everyones.

Although GEA’s music has been featured on the Netflix series Happy Jail, and her music videos have won a number of awards, she is most excited about her upcoming album, Call For A Snake.
