“I leave you my portrait so that you will have my presence all the days and nights that I am away from you.”
“I am not sick. I am broken. But I am happy to be alive as long as I can paint.”
“Nothing is absolute. Everything changes, everything moves, everything revolves, everything flies and goes away.”
It’s hard to believe that an entire year has passed since the Fridge Art Fair rocked Brooklyn’s famed Nu Hotel with its David Bowie inspired theme. But, today, the critically-acclaimed art satellite is back and better than ever. Coinciding with Freeze Week and the massively popular Frida Kahlo exhibition currently happening at the Brooklyn Museum, the Viva Frida motif of Fridge is not only inline with New York’s distinct art culture, it aims to be one of its most recognizable components.
Eric Ginsburg — the Founder and Director of Fridge — is joined by Natalie Fisk — the hotel’s Director and Curator for its in-house PBX Gallery — to bring art enthusiasts five days of exhibitions, entertainment, parties, and lectures inspired by the renowned art and intriguing life of Frida Kahlo. With the staff of Washington DC’s Kyo Gallery acting as this year’s selection committee along with a number of reputable guests, over thirty five independent artists are expected to display their works.
ARTpublika Magazine is honored to be one of the art fair’s most recognizable sponsors. On May 5th, join Liz Publika — the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the growing publication — for a digital presentation on the distinguished art and life of Frida Kahlo, one of Mexico’s most enigmatic cultural heroes. Although Frida Kahlo’s life was plagued by tragedy, tumultuous relationships, and struggles with mental illness, her will, resilience, and insistence on living life on her own terms made her into a worldwide sensation. Join Liz Publika on Cinco de Mayo to learn more about the unforgettable icon.
