"I want to express what’s in my heart, to make way for what's in other people’s hearts, where I believe we all share the same love for life itself and our beautiful planet." — Saycille
“Wish” is a really nice, super calm, and mentally uplifting track. There’s a reason for this; its composer is a talented woman who has dealt with her fair share of setbacks in a constructive and positive way. Her songs reveal a lot about who she is, both as a person and an artist. And though most creative people will tell you that their work is, to a degree, a reflection of their experiences, there is something that stands out about Saycille.
Saycille is not an average pop star. She was not a Disney prodigy who was molded for the spotlight by numerous producers, agents, or music executives. She was not “discovered” on the Internet, like Rihanna, Justin Bieber, or Cody Simpson. And she was not a runner up on any of the music talent search shows that have become immensely popular in recent years. Instead, she is a latecomer to the industry, and a mover and a shaker at that.
Born in the Netherlands in 1964, Saycille held down a number of jobs throughout her life, including working as home healthcare provider, and, most recently, volunteering at the Tijd voor Meedoen Community Center (TvM). While there, she joined the organization’s amateur band as a singer and organized events for people in need of company. Perhaps it was this need that influenced her choices and swayed her to produce music with positive and life affirming lyrics.
“Stick around sometime, like a friend of mine,” start off “Wish.” The track goes on to state: “Having you around, puts me on the ground. That’s all I need, to make it through. I wish you could believe in you, the way I do.” As it progresses, the uplifting message of Saycille’s song never lets up. The track is a prelude to her upcoming album, which is set to drop in February. If "Wish" is anything to go by, we can expect more wonderful music and messages of hope and solidarity to come with it.
I, for one, can’t wait to hear what Saycille is going to surprise us with next.
